Dotted-Line Reporting PRO
Features
In many organizations, people have both a direct manager and one or more indirect (dotted-line) reporting relationships. OrgCanvas Pro lets you visualize both.
What is dotted-line reporting?
A dotted-line relationship represents an indirect or secondary reporting connection. Common examples:
- A developer who reports to the Engineering VP but also works closely with a Product Manager
- A regional sales lead who reports to the Regional Director but has a dotted line to the Global Sales VP
- Matrix organization structures where people have both functional and project managers
Adding a dotted line
- Select the person who has the indirect reporting relationship
- Open their edit panel
- Look for the Dotted Line option
- Select the person they report to indirectly
- The dotted line appears on the chart as a dashed connector
Visual appearance
Dotted lines are displayed as dashed connectors on the chart, making them visually distinct from solid direct-reporting lines. This makes it easy to see both types of relationships at a glance.
Managing dotted lines
- Remove — Select the person, open their edit panel, and remove the dotted-line connection
- Multiple dotted lines — A person can have multiple dotted-line relationships
- Export — Dotted lines appear in both PNG and PDF exports
Pro feature: Dotted-line reporting is available on the Pro plan ($49/year or $99 lifetime).
