OrgCanvas organizes your work into a three-level hierarchy: Workspace > Canvas > Org Chart. Understanding this structure helps you stay organized as your charts grow.

Workspaces

A workspace is your top-level container. It represents a company, client, or organization. All plans include 1 workspace, which is enough for most users.

When to use multiple workspaces

If you're a consultant or agency managing org charts for multiple clients, each client should get its own workspace. This keeps everything cleanly separated. Multiple workspaces are available with OrgCanvas for Business plans.

Managing your workspace

• Rename — Click on the workspace name in the sidebar to edit it
• View details — See how many canvases and people are in the workspace

Canvases

A canvas is a design surface inside a workspace. Think of it as a folder for related org charts. Common ways to organize canvases:

• By department — "Engineering", "Sales", "Marketing"
• By project — "Q2 Reorg", "Merger Integration"
• By scenario — "Current State", "Proposed Changes"
• By client — If you use one workspace for all clients

Creating a canvas

From your workspace dashboard, click the New Canvas button. Give it a descriptive name — you can always rename it later.

Managing canvases

• Rename — Click on the canvas name to edit
• Delete — Remove a canvas and all org charts inside it (this cannot be undone)

Org Charts

Org charts live inside canvases. You can create unlimited org charts on any plan. This is perfect for:

• Keeping a "current state" alongside a "proposed" version
• Historical snapshots ("Q1 2024", "Q2 2024")
• Different presentation formats of the same team
• What-if scenarios and planning documents
