Export Issues
Troubleshooting
Most exports work smoothly, but very large or complex charts can occasionally cause issues. Here's how to fix common export problems.
Blank or incomplete export
If your exported PNG or PDF is blank or missing parts of the chart:
- Zoom to fit first — Press
0 to fit your chart to the screen before exporting. This ensures the entire chart is rendered.
- Expand all branches — Press
E to expand all branches. Collapsed branches may not appear in the export.
- Try a different browser — Chrome tends to handle large exports best. If you're on Safari or Firefox, try Chrome.
Slow or stuck export
Very large charts (100+ people) can take a few seconds to export. If the export seems stuck:
- Wait at least 10-15 seconds before retrying
- Close other browser tabs to free up memory
- If it still fails, try collapsing some branches to reduce the chart size, export, then expand and export again for different sections
Low-resolution export
OrgCanvas exports at a high resolution suitable for presentations and printing. If the image appears blurry:
- Check that you're viewing the image at 100% zoom — it may look blurry if scaled up in a document
- For print, use PDF export (Pro) which produces vector output that's sharp at any size
PDF export not available
PDF export is a Pro feature. If you don't see the PDF option, you may be on the Free plan. Upgrade to Pro to unlock PDF export.
Tips for exporting large charts
- Export sections separately — Collapse the branches you don't need and export just the visible portion
- Use PDF for print — PDF handles large charts better than PNG for printing because it's vector-based
- Close unused tabs and apps — Large exports use significant browser memory
