Introducing Cypress AI — build org charts from a description, a list, or a screenshot.
Today we're launching Cypress AI, the first org chart generator that reads three different kinds of input — a natural-language description, a pasted list, OR a screenshot of an existing chart — and builds a complete, editable org chart in about 10 seconds.
If you've ever stared at a blank canvas wondering whether to start with a template, paste a CSV, or just give up and use a whiteboard, Cypress is for you. It's available to every OrgCanvas user including the permanent free tier (10 generations included), and it works on whatever you have lying around.
Three ways to start a chart
Describe your team in plain English and Cypress builds the hierarchy. No template gymnastics. No node-by-node entry.
"5-person engineering team with a VP, two senior engineers,
and two juniors reporting to a tech lead."
Cypress generates the right number of nodes, infers reporting relationships, picks departments from a canonical palette, and uses placeholder names like "Senior Engineer 1" / "Senior Engineer 2" when you haven't named individuals — you rename them in seconds.
Paste names + titles + reporting relationships in any format — from Slack, an email, a meeting doc, a roster spreadsheet. Cypress dedupes, normalizes department names, and figures out the structure.
Sarah Chen — CEO
Marcus Webb — VP Engineering (reports to Sarah)
Anya Patel — Director of Product (reports to Sarah)
Jin Park — Staff Engineer (reports to Marcus)
Priya Shah — Designer (reports to Anya)
This is the one no other org chart tool does. Upload a screenshot, a photo, or an exported image of an existing org chart — from Lucidchart, Visio, Workday, BambooHR, a PDF, or even a phone photo of a printed chart on someone's wall — and Cypress reads the image and rebuilds it as an editable OrgCanvas chart.
Under the hood, Cypress uses purpose-built vision-capable AI to identify every person card, trace every connecting line, infer titles and departments, and preserve vacant positions and group/category nodes (e.g., a "POD LEADERS" header card with sub-leaders beneath it). Works on charts in 30+ languages including non-Latin scripts (Hindi, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Hebrew).
Why Cypress is different
Most "AI org chart" features in the market do one of two things: they generate a chart from a CSV (which is just structured-data parsing, not really AI), or they offer a one-line text prompt with a fixed template structure. Cypress is the first generator that handles all three input modes — description, list, AND vision — in a single feature.
Free to try
10 lifetime generations on the free plan. No credit card needed.
Vision-capable
Reads existing charts from any image source — the only org chart tool that does this.
Privacy-first
Runs on our private AI infrastructure under a strict no-training policy. Your data is never used to train models.
Privacy & data handling
Cypress runs entirely on our private AI infrastructure. Your prompts and images are processed and the response returned to you — no retention server-side. Data passed through Cypress is never used to train models, and we don't share prompts or images with any third party. Conversation history is stored only locally in your browser, never on our servers.
For the full data-handling breakdown, see the Cypress AI privacy section.
Pricing & limits
- Free — 10 lifetime Cypress generations. Combined with the 25-person account-wide cap, this is enough to try every input mode and build out a small org from scratch.
- 3-Day Pass ($4.99) — 25 generations per day for 72 hours. Unlimited people while active.
- Pro ($49/year) — Unlimited Cypress generations (fair-use soft cap of 100/day for abuse protection). Unlimited people, watermark-free exports, PDF + PowerPoint.
- Business ($199/year per workspace) — Unlimited Cypress generations (fair-use soft cap of 500/day team-wide). Multi-canvas, span-of-control analysis, AI org advisor, scenario planning, headcount budget, REST API.
What we're building next
This is v1. On the roadmap:
- Conversational iteration — "now move Marcus's team under Anya" / "add three more designers reporting to Priya" without re-prompting from scratch.
- Ambiguity flagging — when Cypress isn't sure about a relationship, it asks instead of guessing.
- MCP server — use Cypress from any MCP-compatible client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, etc.) to build org charts from your terminal or coding environment.
